Dmitry Boyko began his martial arts journey at the age of 12 and, between 17 and 19, trained in the Olympic reserve system alongside elite Ukrainian and European judo athletes. After relocating to the United States, he continued his judo training under a master instructor at the renowned Palo Alto Judo Club in California.
Upon moving to North Carolina, Dmitry found it difficult to locate a judo school that met his standards—until a friend introduced him to Apex Martial Arts, where he began training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Professor Geoff Balme.
During the 2019 COVID-19 pandemic, Dmitry remained committed to his development by studying martial arts remotely. When in-person training resumed, he returned to Apex and has since earned his purple belt.
Since 2023, Dmitry has been an active competitor under the guidance of Professors Jeff Piercy and Dave Rosenmarkle. His achievements include gold medals at IBJJF tournaments in North Carolina (Charlotte), South Carolina (Charleston), Georgia (Atlanta), and France, along with podium finishes—including gold and bronze—at the PAN IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championships, North America Masters, and the European IBJJF Championships.
In addition to his competitive success, Dmitry generously gives back to the martial arts community by volunteering his time to teach Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo to adults.
